Q: What ages does the home cater for?

A: We cater for adults both male and female aged 18-65.

 


Q: How many rooms does the home have?

A: Athelstan House is a five-bedroom house, with each room offering the privacy of a good-sized individual bedroom for each resident.

 


Q: What's your policy regarding pets?

A: Although pets are welcome, the management has a responsibility to all the residents living at the home with regard to their aspirations, health and safety. The needs of any pet and the opinions of the home and other residents will be taken into account before any decision regarding pets is confirmed. All costs related to the animal will be the responsibility of the individual and the home will not be responsible for any financial costs.

 


Q: Can you bring your own furniture, telephone and TV into your room?

A: Each room is equipped with a flat screen TV. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own TV if preferred along with personal mementoes and any items of furniture.

 


Q: Does the home support wheelchair access?

A: The home is not considered suitable for residents who are wheel chair users, although two of the rooms are on the ground floor and can be used by individuals with some physical disability.

 


Q: When am I able to see visitors?

A: Your visitors are welcome to come and see you anytime.

 


Q: Can I smoke at Athelstan House?

A: Smoking is only permitted in one of the sitting rooms on the ground floor at Athelstan House. There is a total ban throughout the rest of the home for the benefit and comfort of the staff and service users. Service users, staff and visitors are asked to respect this rule.

 


Q: When are mealtimes and what's offered?

A: The home promotes the resident's health and well being by ensuring the supply of nutritious, varied, balanced and attractively presented meals in a congenial setting and at flexible times.

We offer a choice of suitable menus, which meet dietary and cultural needs and respect individual preferences. Meals are offered three times daily including at least one cooked meal; and a range of drinks and snacks to meet individual needs are available at all times.

We actively support residents to plan, prepare and serve meals it they choose to do so. We respect our service users’ cultural and religious requirements in the preparation and serving of food. Mealtimes are relaxed, unrushed, and flexible to suit resident's activities and schedules.

 


Q: What training do your staff receive?

A: The manager is Kelvin Ithiga who assists the registered providers with the everyday running of the Care Home. Kelvin is currently doing NVQ level 4 in Leadership and Management and also NVQ level 4 in Health and Social Care.

Athelstan House provides 24 hours staffing support. We employ full, and part-time staff members with a minimum qualification of / or working toward achieving NVQ Level 2 in health care. We also have a pool of bank staff that is able to cover holidays and other absences. All our staff are experienced in looking after service users with learning disabilities.
